Filtered water at every tap. No sales rep at your table.
Softer on skin and hair, no chlorine taste, kinder on your appliances. Whole house and under sink systems supplied and installed by licensed Melbourne plumbers, with guide pricing on this page and a written quote in one phone call.
What is actually in Melbourne water. The honest version.
The filtration industry sells fear. We would rather show you the facts and let you decide, because the facts are still a good reason to filter.
Added to keep water safe through kilometres of pipes. It has done its job by the time it reaches your tap, but you still taste it, smell it and shower in it. This is the number one thing a filter removes.
Melbourne Water's 2024 to 2026 testing found no PFAS detections across its protected, closed catchments. Companies that lead their pitch with PFAS fear are not being straight with you. A carbon system still removes it, if certainty helps you sleep.
The water leaves the plant clean, then travels through mains and house plumbing that can be decades old. Older inner north streets can pick up rust, dirt and discolouration on the way in.
Melbourne water is soft by Australian standards, but you still see the spotting on shower glass, crust on tapware and build up in kettles and coffee machines. Filtration reduces it.
The short version: your water is safe, and filtering it still makes it noticeably better to drink, shower in and run appliances on. Anyone who needs you scared to make the sale is telling you something about their product.
What changes when you filter.
Four kinds of households get the most out of it. If one of these is you, a filter will earn its keep.
Skin and hair
Chlorine strips the natural oils that hold moisture in skin and hair. Households with eczema, dermatitis or sensitive skin usually notice the difference in the shower within weeks, and it is why whole house systems outsell shower filters.
Young families
Baby baths, formula, and kids who drink more water when it tastes like nothing. Filtering the whole house means every tap and every bath is the same, no thinking required.
Drinkers of good coffee
Chlorine and scale are the enemies of espresso machines, kettles and anything with an element. Filtered water protects the appliances and makes the coffee taste like it should.
The peace of mind buyer
If you have read about microplastics and PFAS and would simply rather not think about it, a filter is cheap certainty. We will not sell you fear, but we will happily sell you a good night's sleep.
How a whole house system works.
A three stage unit fitted where the mains enters your home, so every tap, shower and appliance runs on filtered water. A bypass valve means servicing never cuts your supply.
- 01
Sediment pre-filter
Catches rust, dirt and grit from the mains before it reaches anything else, including the finer filters behind it.
- 02
Carbon block
The workhorse. Strips chlorine, taste and odour. This is the stage you notice in the shower and in the glass.
- 03
Fine polish
A finer second stage that picks up what is left, right down to the particles you would never see.
Just want better drinking water?
An under sink system with its own filtered tap covers drinking and cooking for a fraction of the price. It is the right call for a lot of homes, and we will tell you when it is. Whole house earns its keep when the shower matters too.
What it costs, straight up.
Most companies in this industry will not put a number on a public page, because the price depends on how the in-home consultation goes. Here is our guide pricing. Your exact price comes as a written quote, before any work starts.

Yes, and we will not tell you otherwise. Melbourne has some of the best treated drinking water in the world, from closed catchments most cities would envy. A filter is about the things you notice day to day, chlorine taste and smell, sediment from older pipes, scale on fixtures, and skin comfort. It is a quality upgrade, not a safety fix.
Melbourne Water's catchment testing from 2024 to 2026 returned no PFAS detections, because Melbourne's catchments are closed and protected. If a salesperson has told you otherwise, ask them for their source. That said, a quality carbon system does remove PFAS and reduces microplastics, so if you want certainty rather than reassurance, a filter genuinely provides it.
Chlorine dissolves the natural oils that hold moisture in skin, which is why showers can leave skin tight, dry and itchy, and why it aggravates eczema for many people. Removing chlorine at the whole house level means every shower and bath is chlorine free. Most sensitive skin households tell us they notice it within a few weeks. We are plumbers, not doctors, so we will never promise a medical outcome.
If it is about drinking and cooking water, an under sink system does the job for a fraction of the price, and we will tell you so. Whole house makes sense when the shower matters too, skin, hair, chlorine smell in the bathroom, or when you want sediment and scale handled everywhere. Tell us what you are noticing and we will point you at the cheaper option if it fits.
Under sink systems usually land between $600 and $1,100 supplied and installed. Whole house systems typically run $2,500 to $3,500 supplied and installed, depending on the system and your pipework. Every job gets a written quote before any work starts. If someone has quoted you $5,000 or more, call us before you sign anything, second opinions are free.
Not when it is sized correctly, which is exactly why a plumber should spec it rather than a salesperson. We size the system to your home's flow rate and fit a bypass valve, so you always have full mains flow available and servicing never cuts your water off.
Yes. Anything that connects to your water supply must legally be fitted by a licensed plumber in Victoria, and we are happy to install a WaterMark certified unit you have bought elsewhere. We will check it suits your plumbing before we book the job.
Most systems want cartridges changed every six to twelve months depending on usage. Cartridges are typically $100 to $250 a set for a whole house system, and you can swap them yourself or have us do it. We record your dates and remind you, with no subscription and no contract.
Under sink is usually done within a couple of hours. Whole house is typically most of a day, fitted at the mains with a bypass, then flushed and tested before we leave.
Under sink systems suit most apartments, and we regularly work for landlords and property managers as well as owner occupiers. If the building or tenancy adds a wrinkle, we will flag it on the phone before anything is booked.
